June 19th Daylilies at Biltmore

Daylilies thrive throughout this part of the country. They grow in the wild along roadsides – the typical orange flowered non hybrid. They are planted profusely in medians and at highway interchanges where they typically use a mass of one of the hybrids – probably `Stella d’Oro’ that is so vibrant that if a driver were getting drousy these blasts of color would wake you up.



At Biltmore Daylilies are planted throughout the perennial beds typically in small patches of a single hybrid. I’d like to know how many different varieties they have. My timing was perfect for the Daylilies – all looked spectacular. Here are just some of what they grew at the Biltmore Estate.
